After spending many hours this week going through the audio archives, we realized that there is quite a bit of unreleased music that has been sitting around for the last year. Many of the tracks are second takes (just as good, in my opinion) that did not make a particular record for whatever reason at the time or from a live shows that could be released as a special project in the future. So, as of this week we will be doing a free weekly download, one new track each week. Here's the latest track info,so check out the Sounds page and enjoy!
'This track was recorded on a trip I took the the island of Cyprus in 2008 with the intent of doing a duo record with a well know Turkish oud player. Sadly, due to border issues at the time he was unable to get across ( 2 city blocks separate the south Greek side from the northern Turkish side of the city ) to the studio. Nicosia to the Greeks, Lefkosa to the Turks is a fascinating and tumultuous city and is the last divided city since the fall of the Berlin wall. The track titled “ Lost Brothers” was recored in South Nicosia as solo guitar piece, with the intent of one day going back to to hear it as a duo.'
Craig Green/Mitsuki Dazai Recording
Just finished a amazing 2 night concert and live recording with Japanese Koto player Mitsuki Dazai. This was our second time performing together and the music keeps getting better. Keep an eye out for the recording and some possible tour days in the future.
All About Jazz NYC reviews P-Jazz!
The Italian based P-Jazz, aka the Foot Job band debut Cd is now out and is creating a bit of a buzz! Don't let the title or the cover artwork throw you, this is serious stuff. The cast of musicians is incredible, and as the only stateside member I am very proud of the work that we put in on the record. Here's the latest review from All About Jazz New York.
"Back in 1980s and early 1990s in New York, musicians were reinventing jazz and the "downtown scene," as it was called, was focused on the The Knitting Factory club. Artists like saxophonists John Zorn, John Lurie and Thomas Chapin, guitarist Marc Ribot and cellist Tom Cora became famous. While they were schooled in the traditional, their rediscovery of the spark and energy that can be found in jazz was a revelation. Bands like Lounge Lizards, Jazz Passengers, Naked City, Doctor Nerve, Chunk and Slan, the first generation to be born under the full weight of rock and roll, brought a D.I.Y. sensibility to the music. This disc epitomizes that same spirit—jazz that rocks!"

DownBeat gives CD ***1/2 this Month!
"Dave King is a brave-hearted musician that can swing sweetly one moment, then quickly erase any notion of slang-a-Lang as he smashes his drum kit to a pulp. As he does in The Bad Plus, King makes defying expectation his mission on this collaboration with guitarist Craig Green. But Green and King don’t simply play guitars, drums and occasional piano; they bang on gongs, trample foot pedals and slide combs against strings.
There are multiple paths into this music, which is entirely improvised. It works well in the semi-pastoral “Walk Left” with Green shaking his guitar neck to create glowing, skittering effects, will King plays piano like some son of Thelounious Monk set afire."
